How far is Casa Ixchel from the sandy beach area?
There are two sandy beach areas on Isla Mujeres, one is the Sac Bajo area that does not have an easy access point and the other is Playa Norte or North Beach area. This area is just north of downtown Isla Mujeres and is a large very gently sloping white sandy beach. It is calm for most of the year and ideal for swimming for all age groups. It is also safe water access for non swimmers. There are various restaurants and beach bars or you can always pack a picnic! This area is about 10 min. on a bicycle from Casa Ixchel. Bicycles are included in your stay with us. If you would prefer to take a taxi it is approximately $2usd. The rest of the coast line on Isla Mujeres is rocky or semi rocky and beach access is possible with appropriate footwear in most places. There is beach access in front of Casa Ixchel and swimming is possible in calm weather and with appropriate footwear. There is a large reef about 20 meters in front of Casa Ixchel with abundant marine life. Dolphins are often seen here between May and September. Snorkeling equipment is also included in your stay with us. Please check weather conditions before swimming in this area as currents can be strong especially in the winter season.
How far are the shops?
There are several small neighborhood shops within walking distance of Casa Ixchel and a medium size supermarket and a variety of shops in the main square of the downtown area.
Is Breakfast Included?
Breakfast is not included , however is available at the restaurant, on the terraces or in your room if you prefer. The restaurant is open for most of the year and when it is not you may order breakfast in whichever area suits you best.
Several Island restaurants also offer a delivery service and most of the Suites at Casa Ixchel are equipped with areas for food preparation.
Where is Casa Ixchel located?
Casa Ixchel is located approximately 3km from the downtown area on the open Caribbean ocean side of the Island. We suggest you hand the taxi driver the address as there are other establishments called Ixchel and this will avoid any confusion. The taxi ride is approximately 5 min. from the passenger ferry dock.
How do I get to the Island?
There are both collective and individual transportation services available from the airport. The collective rate is approx. $12usd and the private service is approx. $40usd. What is there to do on the Island?
The Island is ideal for rest and relaxation in a stunning natural environment. There is a good selection of restaurants and activities ranging from zip lining to swimming with Dolphins, temazcal purification rituals, snorkeling, diving, swimming with whales in their natural habitat. (available in season), tennis on the municipal tennis court (rackets and balls are provided), fishing, cycling, yoga and much more. Cancun is only a 15min boat ride away where you will find world class dining and shopping experiences as well as a very dynamic night life selection. The tours offered in Cancun to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Xcaret etc can all be arranged for you from Casa Ixchel.
How can I contribute to the Island?
If you would like to contribute to Island Life there are always families in need of any second hand clothing, books, blankets etc in fact anything that you are no longer in need of will certainly find a home here!
